Useful to any organisation as part of an internal audit programme schedule and also used before a formal audit or assessment to test for readiness.  Very popular with Law firm's who use this service to test their compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct, applicable rules & regulations and relevant standards such as ISO 9001, LEXCEL,CQS,WIQS, or SQM.  Audit of the organisations management systems, processes & procedures and includes a full procedural and compliance review of a sample of files or work.  You will be encouraged to include samples of work conducted by outsourced providers or consultants.  A report  of the findings with recommendations and guidance to assist with compliance will be provided. Supervision, control & risk management will also be tested and included in the report. One day is generally sufficient for single site organisations as it is a random sampling exercise but additional days can be arranged for a higher degree of inspection.  This service can be designed to focus on specific areas of priority  and level of inspection required.

This service is for organisations who wish to apply for accreditation against specific standards.  Guidance is provided to enable organisations to implement necessary processes & procedures to ensure requirements of the standard sought are met and that the organisation is prepared for an audit or assessment.  Standards worked with include ISO 9001, LEXCEL,CQS, WIQS, SQM, ISO27001, Investors in People, BS76000, BS8477 & Customer Service Excellence. A full gap analysis will be undertaken against the relevant standard and the organisation will receive a full report, recommendation, guidance on implementation & documentation where necessary (e.g.: where an organisation does not have a required policy in line with the Standard) Any documentation, procedures & processes will be amended accordingly. Organisations will be responsible for actual implementation but guidance will be provided to those responsible. The organisation will be fully informed as to the likelihood of success and steps, if any, necessary to enable accreditation.

File Reviews - Legal Industry Only


An independent assessment of procedural compliance of your paper or digital case files. Compliance will be assessed against your processes, SRA Code of Conduct, OFR and any relevant Quality Standard such as LEXCEL, ISO 9001 or SQM.  Client care should always be a priority so in addition to checking for client care letters, cost information, regarding costs,  progress & outcomes, any apparent lapse in customer service will also be highlighted (e.g.:  failing to respond to queries in a timely manner, not addressing clients concerns). The focus will be on checking for procedural compliance including risk management & financial procedures apparent on the file (billing, getting money on account, disbursements). A detailed report will be provided which will include guidance and recommendations on addressing non compliances and improving areas of weakness. Any areas of concern that are of a financial nature will be highlighted to both the COFA & COLP.  Legal advice is not assessed however, due to knowledge & experience, there is the ability to spot areas of potential concern of the quality of legal work and this will be flagged up to the Compliance Officer (COLP) and the organisation. This is also applicable where a potential material breach becomes apparent. 


One day is generally sufficient to provide a sampling of up to 20 (15 for CQS standard)  reasonably sized files (no bigger than one lever arch file) at a single site. If the files are small, a larger sample will be tested. If a larger sample is required, additional days can be booked. Majority of clients use this service either monthly or quarterly as part of their file review process. Using an external reviewer is effective as it avoids internal reviewer complacency, competing priorities, perceived lack of time and lack of importance placed on reviews.
